The Effects Of Parenting Styles On Kids - 1155 Words
ââ¬Å"Focus more about who your child is than on what your child does. Remember, youââ¬â¢re growing a person, not fixing a problemâ⬠L.R. Knost. To see the importance of different parenting techniques, one must look at the Authoritative, Authoritarian, Permissive, and Lenient parenting techniques. Over the years parenting styles have changed drastically. In the mid twentieth century, parents werenââ¬â¢t as concerned about their children but as the years progressed on, parents became more aware of what was going on with their children and what their children were up to. According to AHA parenting, there are four types of parenting styles: Authoritarian, Authoritative, Permissive, and uninvolved otherwise known as lenient (AHA Parenting). A studyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦According to Baumrind, these parents are ââ¬Å"obedience- and status- oriented, and expect their orders to be obeyed without an explanationâ⬠(1991). A research study conducted by Laura Markham, a clinical psychologist, says ââ¬Å"being too strict can cause depression and loneliness in the children, because a child may feel unwantedâ⬠(Markham). Overall the Authoritarian parenting approach leads to children who are obedient and proficient but the children generally rank lower in happiness, social competition, and self esteem. Some characteristics of the Authoritarian parent includes parents who have absolute control over their children. ââ¬Å"Authoritarian parents think that they know what is best for their kids; therefore it is up to the parents to dictate what the children really need. Authoritative parents limit or ban most things that their children enjoy because these will distract the kids from their best academic performanceâ⬠(What is your parenting style?). The Authoritarian parent worry about preparing their child for not just the childââ¬â¢s present but also for the childââ¬â¢s future; They strongly be lieve that a child should develop positive habits early in life so it will follow them throughout their lifetime. The outcome of a test conducted by PISA concludes that children with an oriental background tend to have a better performance rate compared to American students. Authoritative Parenting technique sets rules that the

Essay on Burn the Fuse of Drug Abuse - 667 Words
Addiction and abuse of drugs have remained an unexplainable circumstance, even till today. A mistaken assumption is that drug abusers lack moral principles, and if given a chance or in the presence of will power, their selections could be altered. In reality, drug addiction is known as a complex disease and requires more than will power or mere good intentions to change. Due to the fact that drug addiction could change the way the brain works, with time, the brain promotes compulsive drug abuse. It is difficult to relent even if one is ready to do so. Drug abuse has negative influences not only in the lives of mortals, but also in the society. Drug abuse and addiction not only has negative effects in the lives of the peopleâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In this paper, I would expatiate on the issue by making the readers understand why people get involved in drugs and circumstances that surround the issue. I would focus on the medical culture that has led to drug abuse and addict ion in recent times: The traditional medicine versus modernized health care. I have decided to take the focal point of my argument from the paper, ââ¬Å"The Importance of Knowing but not knowing.â⬠Drawing necessary points to support my claims and further research on similar papers to broaden the perspective of the reader. Also, I would brief the reader on the psychological effects of drug abuse and addiction. It is a wide known fact to most people involved in crime today, especially the teenagers started as a result of drug abuse. This fact has been demonstrated in several journals one of which is ââ¬Å"Violence Exposure and Drug use in Central America.â⬠This paper gives an insight to the reason for violence amongst youths and using statistics to buttress important points. One thing about drug abuse and addictions is that the victims do not only tolerate it, but also by the society and an aspect of the society that loses to drug abuse is the economy. Excerpts obtained from ââ¬Å"The Economic Impact of Illicit Drug Use on American Societyâ⬠validate this point. Renaissance period Free Essays
In the Renaissance period, there had been evidence that mentally people did already exist. In this period, the beliefs which mainly came from the Middle Ages were dragged into renaissance period. This is the ideology that people under mental disorder or people who are mentally ill are those who were casted by or cursed by evil spirits (Administrator, 2006). We will write a custom essay sample on Renaissance period or any similar topic only for you Order Now Certain people under this kind of disorder where locked away during this time, they are being placed in cells and they are not being taken care of by any physicians. These people are said to be tortured instead of being cured, they are often being locked up inside the closets and even in cages because of their being disobedient caused by their unknown mental disorder (Administrator, 2006). On the year 1493-1541 Paracelsus had this ideology that mental illness is not really cause by evil spirits but then people during this time did not took his idea as merely fact and instead the people continued the way on how they treat mentally disordered ones. It is explained that people with this kind of problem during the renaissance time only talk and interact with people of their same disorder. It is because they are the ones who are considered dangerous and incompetent (Administrator, 2006). As a result to lack of care and attention for seeking cure, people who are mentally ill during the renaissance period are experiencing difficulties which cause their mental health to be more of a problem because instead of being reversed, they become more mentally ill (Administrator, 2006). The cruel treatments such as torture for the mentally ill people were lessened during the 17th century where the first mental hospital was established in England. People in this ward were viewed like animals in the zoo during this time and there were no further studies made to cure such mental problem until the mid 18th century (Administrator, 2006). College Essay Example For Students
College Essay As I thought of this article, many of the issues I have faced as a single Hmong woman in her mid-twenties came to mind. Should I discuss the functional reasons why marriage is so important in the Hmong culture, especially for women? Or do I talk about the lack of eligible, older Hmong men? Better yet, should I complain about the attempts by my relatives to find me a good husband as if it were an unfortunate circumstance that I was single instead of a conscious choice? Thinking it over, though, I decided that all those questions boiled down to one fundamental truth the Hmong community is still trying to learn how to treat the increasing number of Hmong women who, like me, are making the choice to stay single in their mid-twenties. Today, single Hmong women in their mid-twenties are living on their own, sometimes in different cities, earning their own income, and making decisions independent of both their parents and clans. However, in a community where marriage defines the moment an individual becomes an adult, these successes still have not allowed them to be treated or perceived as adults by the family and clan. Furthermore, in a culture where a womans role continues to be defined by the dominant male in her life either her father or her husband the independence of Hmong women in their mid-twenties has led to a displacement of traditional roles. My sister coined the term Christmas Tree Age when someone told her that in order to be able to find a good husband, a Hmong woman needed to be no older than twenty-five years old. Just like a Christmas Tree which is discarded after the 25th of December, the Hmong community seems to disregard women older than twenty-five as in-eligible marriage material. At twenty-five years of age, Ive attained many of the goals I set for myself as a young girl, starting a successful career in Corporate America, gaining financial freedom and traveling the globe. Yet, to many of my relatives, it seems my life is still lacking the most critical ingredient a husband. While in college, my single status seemed more acceptable. However, as I have continued to focus on my career instead of a husband and as I have reached the magic twenty-five, the choice to remain single has become an increasing concern for my family. Their comments have sometimes been subtle and other times overt, sometimes mentioning available young men they have come across and other times joking about expectations from my yet-unknown husband. Occasionally, their comments are outright statements about how I should stop waiting and marry as soon as possible. I must admit that there are moments when I, too, am concerned about my prospects for a good husband. After all, I have seen numerous friends marry, have children and lead fulfilling lives. I have had relatives caution me against waiting too long and I understand that even though I am surrounded by the American culture and ideas, I am still Hmong. I was raised, as are all Hmong girls, knowing that marriage is a part of my future. With the pressure from my family and clan, it would be easy to believe that I am letting any opportunities for a good marriage past me by. But I know I am not. In those moments when I am concerned about my state of single-hood, I am calmed by some key things. First, I know what I want, not just in a husband but also the type of life I want to lead. I know that Im not just looking for a husband, but Im looking for a partner in life, either within or outside of the community, who is as willing to be as committed to my goals as I am to his. Im comforted by the fact that I am not alone. Today, there are more and more Hmong women who are making the decision to stay single through their mid-twenties to do other great things with their lives. Simply knowing that they, too, continue to pursue the goals they have set for themselves also gives me the strength to know that, although my decisions are different from most women in our community, they are not extraordinary. Finally, I am emboldened by the fact that I love my life. I love the freedom I have to travel and see the world. I love the freedom to go out late and have fun with my friends. I love the freedom I have to stretch the boundaries that exist around me. .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e , .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e .postImageUrl , .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e , .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e:hover , .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e:visited , .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e:active { border:0!important; } .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e:active , .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub3068232e399e06af19658fae3cc540e:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: MODERN HISTORY ASSESSMENT TASK #1 EssayAlthough no one can ever know what path their life would have taken if different decisions had been made, I know that I have never regretted mine to delay marriage. The Art Of War Withstanding Time Essays - Sun Tzu, Warrior Code
The Art of War: Withstanding Time History credits the Chinese General Sun Tzu (circa 500 BC) with authoring a series of essays on the subject of war. Considered to be the earliest known treatises on the subject, Sun Tzu discussed military organization, defensive and offensive strategies as well as tactical maneuvering. Of his many essays his best known work, The Art of War, continues to be a reference for modern military strategists. Sun Tzu's longevity is indebted mainly to Father J. J. M. Amiot, a French Jesuit priest, who brought a translation back to Europe shortly before the French Revolution. The nucleus of Sun Tzu's principles for the conduct of war are: "All warfare is based on deception" and "The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting". In addition to Sun Tzu's later western influence, his ideas spread throughout continental Asia and eventually to Japan. The Japanese were quick to adopt Sun Tzu's precepts; eventually adding a few chapters to The Art of War of their own. In the end, Sun Tz u's treatises played a significant role in later Japanese military strategies and history. Although Sun Tzu's work is credited to the Spring and Autumn Period, it is interesting to note the following era was that of the Warring States. Whether or not Sun Tzu's treatises are simply a product of their time or an ominous indicator is difficult to discern. What is clear, however, is the dramatic nature of his subsequential historical impact. "If you know the enemy and know yourself, your victory will not stand in doubt. If you know Heaven and know Earth, you may make your victory complete", Sun Tzu said. Being one of his most famous sayings, it has urged thousands and thousands of strategists to meticulously analyze their enemies and opponents. A stratagem of timeless value, appreciated by military leaders of all times. The military thought expounded in Sun Tzu's Art of War is abundant, almost touching on all aspects of ancient wars. His thirteen chapters of principles and theories on war have been praised by militarists around the world. But the influence of his tactics has gone far beyond the military field. Today, his military theory is appreciated by businessmen and politicians as well. Highly applicable in the business world, Sun Tzu's Art of War has become a major influence on business strategy, especially in Asia. Sun Tzu's Art of War is written by Sun Wu and is set in the final years of the Spring and Autumn Period, 770-476 BC It is not only the oldest Chinese military work in existence but the oldest military theory in the world. Sun Wu, also called Chang Qiao, is known to have lived at about the same time as Confucius (the founder of Confucianism) and the Buddha (the founder of Buddhism). "Tzu" means man and was the title for famous men in ancient China. Hence, Sun Wu became Sun Tzu. Sun Wu, who was a native of Qi, caught King Ho Lu's attention with his profound knowledge on military theory. The king appointed him to train a few troops as an experiment. The experiment was conducted with women instead soldiers. The king sent him one hundred and eighty beauties from the palace. Sun Wu divided them into two companies with the king's two favorite concubines as their leaders. He gave them axes and halberds and asked them if they knew their right from their left. The women assured him that the y did. Then with the roll of a drum he gave the order "Turn right!? The women burst out laughing. Sun Wu said, "If the rules are not clear and the orders are not clear, the commander is to blame". He repeated the instructions a third and a fourth time. Again the beauties from the palace burst out laughing. Then Sun Wu said, "If the rules are not clear and orders are not understood, the commander is to blame. But when orders are clear yet not carried out, it is the officers who are to blame". Then he executed both company leaders. The king protested. Sun Wu replied, "I have been appointed commander, and a general in the field is not bound

What an Average Essay Writing Service Can Do for You
What an Average Essay Writing Service Can Do for You What an Average Essay Writing Service Can Do for You As a student, there are many more reasons to use an essay writing service beyond the quintessential plagiarism schemes where students pay a writer to produce a model paper for them. While this is certainly something possible, it is just the tip of the iceberg. Using an essay writing service you can get: Model Paper (Obviously) Of course the first thing people think of is getting a model paper on their topic or type of an essay so that they can use that as an example. This is great because it often offers ideas for structure and for references students might want, which can cut down on research time. Proofread/Edited Essay One of the best reasons for working with a service is that they can edit or proofread content you produce. You can make sure you have citations properly formatted in APA or that your tenses remain the same throughout the text by working with a professional. You can avoid being marked down severely by doing this. Topic Ideas for Academic Papers If you are struggling to come up with a topic for your assignment, you can look to writing companies for lists of potential ideas. Tips on How to Improve the Style and Content With each draft of a paper you want to submit, an editor can look over your content for issues with style and content, helping you to ensure the first narrative essay you write or the first compare and contrast essay you produce is great and on point. This is a wonderful tool for students who are trying to complete an essay they have never done before. Constructive Criticism It can be difficult to get the constructive criticism you need from your teacher or from your classmates, especially if you only turn in your paper to your teacher and only receive a quick grade. If you use a writing service, they can give you the constructive criticism you need to make sure your final draft is perfect. This is great when you are working through a long term project. Tips on How Your English Must Be Improved You can submit drafts of work you have done or provide a portfolio of your recent work to a writing service. After this, they can review your work and give you tips on what things you should work to improve. This is great for second language learners. You might not realize that indefinite articles or past tense are problematic or that you have issues with them in each paper you write. But a writing service can review your work and highlight what areas you might want to improve for next time. Again, an essay writing service can provide you with many forms of assistance as a student. You should not be so quick to judge what they have to provide especially when you will face many types of tasks as a student.

Religious Beliefs and Government Leadership Research Paper
Religious Beliefs and Government Leadership - Research Paper Example 1-2). Although Romney (2007) cites the influence of religion in the principles of Americaââ¬â¢s founders, he also states that times has changed, and the emergence of cultural diversity in America requires leaders to maintain their objectivity when making public policy. With his speech, it is evident that Romney supports the notion of Church-State separation, although he admits that his Mormon faith helped shape his values and perspectives in life. In analyzing the speech of Obama and Romney, one can say that both leaders support the separation of Church and State affairs, particularly in their presidential candidacy and in creating leadership policies. For instance, both leaders cite the necessity of providing state benefits and programs that will benefit the majority, regardless of religious beliefs. Thus, although religion influences the decisions of public leaders, politicians should exercise control over their personal opinions lest their opinions violate the beliefs and right s of the majority. However, considering Romneyââ¬â¢s argument on faith as a source of oneââ¬â¢s fundamental moral principles, one can say that religion, in one way or another, influences how leaders develop their strategies (p. 4). This idea is also evident in Obamaââ¬â¢s (2006b) argument about the religious freedom through defining ethics in social interactions (paras. 18-23). Consequently, as a political leader, Obama argues that leaders should take concern of their policies, particularly in the way those policies affect the relationships of the majority. Considering the two speeches, one can say that leaders cannot escape from the influence of religion in their policies, and this is because of the innate tendency of human beings to draw conclusions from our... This paper stresses that the Church-State separation may be considered one of the most challenging aspects of the society, considering that one should maintain objective judgment on critical socio-political aspects. This is particularly true among political leaders, who have to face the challenges of leadership while aligning their values with their existing leadership policies and religious beliefs. For instance, the arguments of Obama, Romney, Cuomo, and Kenney illustrate the challenges of becoming a political leader, which is resolving a crisis while maintaining their diplomacy and religious neutrality. The author diclares that Church-State separation also regulates the power of both political and religious leaders wherein neither can advise the people on their political and religious preferences, particularly during elections. considering the potential biased portrayal of religious traditions in the current pluralistic American society, Obama states that leadership strategies sho uld focus on generating policies that strengthen diplomacy as this ensures objectivity. Relatively, as Obama focuses on the influence of religion on interactions, one can say that Obamaââ¬â¢s view on his political office is merely a neutral ground wherein he can discuss policies without having to consider his religious opinions. This report makes a conclusion that Cuomo and Kennedy support the idea of isolating oneself from religious and political influence when creating public policies. Considering that legal enforceable rule on Church-State separation, one can say that presidential candidates should not be evaluated according to their religion. American citizens, regardless of religious beliefs, have the right to establish their political views without undergoing the same religious prejudice that they wish to eradicate in the society.

China has excellent environmental policies on paper. The problem is that the policies are not implemented do you agree with this - Essay Example ââ¬Å"The high-growth, resource-intensive development strategy China has pursued, coupled with the norms and institutional relationships designed to support this development strategy, have no doubt played a critical role in the deteriorating quality of the environmentâ⬠(Jahiel, n.d., p. 34). The decentralization of economy has provided the officials both operating at the provincial level and at the regional level with incentives and means to develop and advance the local economies. There has been a pervasive emphasis on the consumerism, development, and profit in the proclamations of the government as well as throughout the society. This has made the local governments feel justified in intervening against such regulations as environmental protection since they are considered unfavorable to the growth of economy. Rapid growth of economy has been the major goal of the Chinese state since the 1990ââ¬â¢s. This goal has been supported by the state by means of institutional arran gements like creation of the consumerist and growth-oriented social norms, and the decentralization of political economy that spurs local initiative. ... ild pursuit of economic growth, and failed to avoid some of the worst pollution scenarios we, as policymakers, had predictedâ⬠(Geping cited in King, 2013). In its attempt to maintain the economic boom, the enterprises owned by state in China that account for the employment of up to 110 to 115 million workers need to be shut down or streamlined, which would result in the ruse of social dislocation as well as unemployment (Knup, n.d., p. 9). There is a lot of tendency of growth in the social unrest as the urban centers teem with the unemployed people providing them with no previous benefits. Demands of more consumer goods and food have increased because of the rising standards of living at the same time, that have increased the pressure on the government to sustain further growth of economy since the expectations of the people have to be satisfied. Indeed, the biggest challenge that the Chinese leaders are facing today is how to sustain the growth of economy and simultaneously ad dress the rising social challenges. China faces significant environmental challenges-what is it doing to head them off? Transformations in the environmental policies of China are a fundamental component of the Scientific Outlook on Development that is amongst the major national strategic theories of China. With the frequent occurrence of natural disasters and climate changes on a global scale, the whole world has paid attention toward Chinaââ¬â¢s environmental policy, since it is a major power of the world in the present age. In effect, the travels have enabled me to bring alive the information that I had previously read in books and always wanted to experience in my life. Specifically, my travels have led me to California, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Nevada where I have had a chance to vacation. Consequently, I have acquired instrumental knowledge about the operations in each state that I have vacationed in, with each state and city visited having different elements that make them distinctive in their own way, which explains the differences in society and economies different states experienced. For example, New York City has the high transit utility in the United States and a successful financial market in the Wall Street. On the other hand, San Jose has a large freeway system to support the third densely populated city in California and the famous high technology companies located in the Silicon Valley region. I believe that travel has strengthened my experiences and complemented my understanding of the book knowledge on America. Further, my volunteering roles with the Salvation Army and the Second Harvest Bank have had a huge impact on my life. It was during this time that I realized and identified the difference between the society and the economy. In the course of my work with these two organizations, I collected, packed, and distributed materials on my way to becoming a professional volunteer. Notably, an experience regarding two locals arguing about the quantity of meals they received is forever etched in my mind since it highlighted the challenges experienced in such

The Growth of Nora in A Dolls House :: A Dolls House Essays
The Growth of Nora in A Doll's House In the play " A Doll's House", written by Henrik Ibsen, Nora, the main character of the play, decides to abandon her husband, her home and her children in order to find herself. She finally realizes she has to leave when confronted with a problem in her relationship with her husband, who keeps treating her like a doll, reflecting the childish treatment she always received from her father before. She finds the strength to leave with her childhood friend Kristine, who has led a hard life, and has the wisdom to guide and support her. Nora leaves the role of the doll child and doll wife she played her whole life, and becomes an independent self-thinking adult, when she realizes that the world is different than she always thought it was, and that she herself is not who she thinks she is. Nora lives in a dream world, a child fantasy, where everything is perfect, and everything makes sense. She thinks that the world would never condemn a woman who tries to save her husband's life or protect a dying father. When confronted by Krogstad, who tells her it is against the law to sign someone else's signature, she responds: " This I refuse to believe. A daughter hasn't a right to protect her dying father from anxiety and care? A wife hasn't a right to save her husband's life? I don't know much about laws, but I'm sure that somewhere in the books these things are allowed." Nora simply does not understand the ways of the world, and the final realization that she is in real danger of risking hers and her husband's reputation, and worse, makes her snap out of the childish dream she had been living. Kristine, Nora's childhood friend, is the wisdom and support Nora needs to grow up. Kristine is a woman who has been in the real world, unlike other wives of Torvald's friends. At the same time, Kristine is a friend from Nora's childhood, a person who she can tell her problems to and relate to in some way. Also, unlike everyone else who surrounds Nora, Kristine tells her the truth, she does not pamper her.
